BIOGRAPHY

Nava Lundy was born in New Jersey and raised in South Florida.  A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Nava has been a professional artist since 1998, and has been painting almost her entire life.  She currently resides in South Florida with her husband and three children.  Her exploits as an artist have been featured in local and national news. Nava’s artwork is part of permanent collections throughout the world, including universities, and museums, as well as Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, Israel and featured in the PBS documentary After Parkland. She is the recipient of The ACA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nava’s paintings are loaded with texture and layers of colour emphasized by the metallic wash that she uses to prepare each canvas.  She works in acrylic on canvas using archival material. Alternating between palette knife, large and detail brushes, as well as fan brushes, she creates her unique Romantic Impressionist style.

“Discovering and creating beauty that goes beyond the superficial and makes you pause is what I set out to do in each and every one of my paintings. I am obsessed with the way shape and colour can seem undefined yet connected, eliminating edges and using the relationships between the negative and positive spaces to play with  brushwork and pigment. Although one kind of work does not define me as an artist,  I am drawn to figurative and portrait work. I paint strong women with a sense of mystery behind their beauty. They are all more than just a pretty face and command intrigue and attention. They have a dreamy quality and a commanding presence but do so with elegance and femininity. I try to listen to my paintings and see what they need.  The worst thing for me is being formulaic. It is all about the journey the painting takes you on.”
